The web moved forward. Its architecture didn’t.
Epoch32 is an independent, nonprofit systems engineering research initiative dedicated to redefining the foundations of the modern web.
For over a decade, frontend development and web infrastructure have settled into an expensive compromise: megabytes of runtime bloat, fragile transitive dependency graphs, and heavy Virtual DOM reconciliation trees.
We believe the web commons deserves better. Epoch32 conducts applied, zero-dependency systems research to prove that modern web standards-when engineered from mathematical first principles-can deliver radical speed, absolute security, and zero supply-chain liability.
Two Core Packages
Rather than maintaining sprawling ecosystems or fragmented micro-libraries, Epoch32 focuses all engineering efforts on two tree-shakeable, zero-dependency foundations:
1. Visage - The Post-Virtual-DOM Reactive Library
Commercial frameworks treat the DOM as something to be continuously diffed in memory. Visage eliminates the Virtual DOM entirely, compiling declarative templates directly to surgical DOM operations powered by fine-grained TC39 Signals and a cycle-free topological DAG scheduler. You only import what you render.
Highlights: Sub-microsecond state propagation, zero synthetic event overhead, fine-grained reactive stores, and full tree-shaking.
2. Klyro - The Modern Cryptostack for TypeScript
Hardware-derived cryptography, passwordless identity, and zero-trust protocols belong natively in standard TypeScript without crossing heavy WebAssembly boundaries or relying on fragile native C++ addons. Klyro brings together WebAuthn PRF key derivation, Level 3 FIDO2 ceremonies, and AURA-our pioneering Asymmetric Memory-Hard Function (aMHF) featuring an O(1) algebraic trapdoor shortcut for legitimate passkey holders.
Highlights: 100% native crypto.subtle and TypedArray implementation, constant-time operations, Known-Answer Test verified, zero external dependencies.
Operating Invariants
Every release published by Epoch32 adheres to four non-negotiable principles:
1. Public Good & Open Standards: All code, benchmarks, and research are MIT-licensed and dedicated unconditionally to the developer community.
2. Zero External Dependencies: Both Visage and Klyro are self-contained. No transitive polyfills, no abandoned sub-dependencies, no supply-chain vectors.
3. Zero WASM / Serialization Tax: Operations manipulate native ArrayBuffer, DataView, and live DOM nodes directly in standard JavaScript heap memory.
4. Universal Edge Runtimes: Verified deterministic execution across modern browsers, Cloudflare Workers, Bun, Deno, and Node.js.
